For me, the desert is a spiritual home. I find peace in the wide-open spaces. Beautiful, wild and free, the desert is one of the last great wildernesses, a place of startling contrasts and raw beauty. Nature collides with itself here, and the results of these collisions are not hidden under a layer of vegetation. They are there for all to see: the geologic forces of uplifting faults, plate tectonics, the ebb and flow of glaciers and oceans, the magic carving of windblown sand, the steady gravity-driven logic of water. Here we can step back in time. Here we meet nature face to face.
